Andrea, you seem to suggest that an overpaint of lighter green over the darker green might have possibly been a thing that was done to KM helmets during the war. Is this the case? How and why would that happen? It would explain a lot and would be really helpful to know.

yes an overpaint might indicate a sort of one color camo. also KM soldiers used to paint their stuff for coastal/artillery operations according to the surrounding environment where the operations occurred.
