With the conclusion that the M40 I posted was a put together fake, I've been looking at it closely to try and see the giveaways. So with the liner out, I wanted to ask if the experts here could explain the giveaways based on the pictures below. I have been told that the liner band is real. For what it's worth the split pins are marked D&C 1941
The circles around where the drawstring comes through stand out. I've been looking high and low both in the books and online for another liner with those, real or repro without any luck. Anyone recognize where that came from?
There is the one stamp on the backside of the liner leather. As a repro, you'd have thought they'd have put the usual stamp in it's usual spot. All the repro liners I came across show that size marking.
Sorry for the never ending questions, but the bug has bitten to learn more. One Meland book here, the other on the way, and looking for a reasonably priced Ludwig Baer helmet bible as well.
Not looking to go knee deep in helmets, but I do want to see if over time I can find a legit one to go with the other wartime helmets I have.

In my opinion the newness of the felt and the leather itself is a dead giveaway. They really don't look like time weathered items at all. Granted my M42 liner looks fresh, but it still has some age. I have liners with the small reinforcement pieces on the back of the tongues/fingers. Here are some of mine.
I have a digital copy of Baer's book that has had Optical Character Recognition applied so it is fully keyword searchable in Adobe Reader. Being he received all his royalties years ago I have no concerns sharing it privately with you.

As Andrea already stated in another topic. The felt is incorrect , the eyelets for the drawstring and the leather how it looks are the giveaways.
Yes, i think only the metal band marked with Rbnr is original.
Note for the new friend: Leather and liner band can be mismatched (swapped, replaced )...that means, as your case shows, one piece original the other no.
