Does anyone know more about this luftschutz helmet?
Hi,
Does anyone know more about my Luftschutz helmet? I got it from my grandfather. He flew for the Dutch airforce and later on RAF during ww2 and I think he brought it with him as a souvenir.
Not sure if it's police, fire brigade, flak or maybe volksturm? Or other?
It's colour is black but I don't know if it's painted over. Inside there's a marking 20374.

It's a beaded M40 helmet that looks like it has had a few repaints along the way. Can see no traces of any decals.
Hard to say how it started out in life, but very possibly a post war repainted Fire helmet

Not 40.. it's a M35.
it could have been many things. Issued with as a Luftschutz most likely and reused later, who knows maybe volkssturm as your guess or fire as Michael's guess.
Any maker code ?
thanks, I can see only 20374 inside no other markings
so do you think it is painted black or can this be an original colour? If painted over could that have been done during the war or later?

with that lot nr it's a Quist (Q) or an EF.
hard to say if period or after the war, the shell is compromised but the paint looks old. is it totally repainted black inside as well correct?

being painted inside i am also leaning towards a repainted by czech fire dept, after the war as MAP suggested
