Helmet with sandy or desert colour

Quote

Hi guys,  Is it possible that this helmet is an Africa corps helmet ? Or was this colour also used in other situations or common ?

The skinstrap is an old one, but I don't think it is the original one...

Best regards,

Daan

It appears to be one of the controversial tan painted helmets that some people think were a post war Egyptian contract.  Some think otherwise, but most agree post war of some sort.  A bunch of them were found in a Czech warehouse back in the 1990's(?) and most were mint condition altho yours has obviously suffered some, condition wise.  Regardless, it is a wartime shell and liner but not a DAK camo.

Cheers,

Terry

I think Terry said it all Daan. Not DAK ,  post war refurbished.

Agree with the above.....

But at a really cheap price. For the novelty I'd have one on my shelf. They were made this way for a reason. Not to sell "fake" DAK/Sudfront camos.

And one day we may just find out what the real purpose was and what country they were destined for. Adding to the history of these wartime shells. Just like the Norwegian re-issues which are collectible in their own right.

Just my lonesome view......

Mate . . . my gut-feel is you'll be waiting a few lifetimes before these are valued like Norwegian re-issues . . . but hey, 50yrs ago no-one thought an M35 DD SS would be worth $10K+ USD today!

As far as we know, Terry is correct in that his view seems to be the accepted explanation of the helmet community the last few years.

Karl K. @ SVMilitaria had a number of these for sale a few years ago. Still has one for sale, though not identical but in an M42 model bottom of the page for steel helmets on his site

Thanks, D

Probably...that is why I said for a really "Cheap" price. It was never about investment value but more about the "timeline of the history" that I find interesting. From the first M16 all the way to current generations of composite helmets that have the Stahlhelm DNA embedded in their design.

Years ago, Norwegian helmets had almost zero collector interest. In the 70's, these were bought by the boat load by importers (Unique Imports being one), who then stripped, repainted and added fake decals. One of these was my first helmet no less. But today, that is viewed as taboo.
