Back with another question.
Quote from Guppy35 on March 12, 2021, 2:44 amHope you don't mind my trying to keep understanding the history bit more.
I came across another site where they reference a Reichsbetriebsnummer or RB number. that according to the site was used from sometime in 43 on. Is there a site or a book that would have the numbers, and what cities and factories they reference?
Or maybe more simply, which German helmet "bible" would be the place to start. I've seen some comments on books here on the German Helmet Vault noting those books that have been poorly done, or worse become the justification for the increase in forgeries.
Is there one that folks would recommend that would fit well on my shelf?
Thanks
Dan
And yes I'm getting a bit of the bug to try and start the hunt for the real deal in terms of an M42, and not get taken if possible.
Edited to add a photo of what was considered 'the book' back in the late 70s when I was doing the armor model building and wanted to get things right. Made me laugh when I opened it up again as it only mentioned the M35 and the M43 aka the M42 as it describes the German helmets. No mention of the M40 and the term M42 isn't in there. The photo in my avatar is scanned from that book.

Found the bibliography. I had ordered Jan Meland's first book, but hadn't seen mention of his new one. E-mail on the way to him in hopes the latest is still available. The Ludwig Baer book is out there, but man that's expensive. Going to have to save my pennies. So skip the question about the 'bible' as the 'bible' was referenced on the Bibliography page here.
The Reichsbetriebsnummer or RB number question still remains 🙂

Quote from MAP on March 12, 2021, 3:50 amJan's new book should still be available. One of the best out there
As far as RB numbers. I do not know of any book out there although I'm sure there might be but War Relics Forum has list that is updated as information becomes available.
Membership is free.
Here is a link to the thread. Towards the end, a member has added a boat load of RBn numbers (unfortunately however not in order LoL)

Quote from Guppy35 on March 12, 2021, 5:16 amThanks for that sir. Just trying to understand where that liner band came from. A Berlin area company apparently. The 0250/0822 number didn't show on his list, but wow! What a project that man has taken on. More power to him for putting the time in.
Good to know the Meland book is still out there.
All I need, one more history addiction 🙂

I do not know that number. Ken N's book (out of print and one of the best out there) only has 0/0256/0038 (B&C) and 0/0251/0111 (Werner Zahn) and Jan's book only has the B&C.
It would most likely have to be one of the remaining M31 liner makers
- Schuberth Werk
- FW Muller
- Max Densow (although these were only produced up to 1938)

Quote from helmetguy on March 12, 2021, 3:59 pmI don't recognize the 0250/0822 number. Here is my own list of liner band RBNr's that I've compiled over the years:
0/0256/0038 B&C Berlin
0/1305/0293 B&C Litzmannstadt
0/0471/0048 DRP Schuberthwerke
0/0250/0622 FWM
0/0251/0111 WZ
These would all be on 1943 or 1944 dated liner bands.
Cheers,
Terry

Quote from Guppy35 on March 13, 2021, 5:55 amThanks for the continuing education. It's possible, it's the 0622 number. The stamp isn't that clear.
MAP, I did e-mail Jan Meland. He had no copies left except one that had some sort of blemish. Heck if I cared. So I'm getting that one 🙂
Looking forward to it immensely.
