Refurbished SE M35 Decal options

Quote

Hello. I recently obtained an original but repainted M35 SE68 with lot number 305 for a deal I couldn't pass up. I am not fond of the current camo scheme and was  considering having it redone with a Waffen SS double decal "normandy " camo representation. I have run into a conundrum with this idea because according to the GHV info pages, SE never made factory SS helmets and SE helmets with champagne runes are fakes.

I understand it is a refurbishment, but is there any historically accurate way to have a SE M35 with SS decals as a post-factory/reissue? Likewise would it be accurate to have it set up as a combat polizei or is that also the same issue?

Welcome to the forum. The website and forum is designed to help collectors in their quest to find authentic pieces of history. So the purpose of your question is out of scope for the intended purpose. Since you are doing a mock up I would not worry about what decals to apply , if it is a camo the decals would be overpainted by the soldiers anyway.

I understand and apologies for my question being not in line with the purpose. If I may rephrase it, have there been any original SE helmets found with reissued SS decals or is that a dead ringer inaccuracy?

Given the fact that Polizei and SS had contracts with specific helmets makers (and SE wasn't in the list) i'd say that any SE with SS decal is a bogus...albeit anomalies occurred (foreigner SS divisions that had SS decals for ex (only Pocher by the way)

Ah so a potential anomaly might be a Waffen SS division with a re-issued SE. In this case would the Pocher decal likely have been applied over existing decals?

yes legit. so yes

  1. over an existing one (if a 35 model) or
  2. not even over any if on a 40 or 42 model since those were issued as single decal.. then it depends from which side they were actually applied.

just an example of what i am saying. they are both Dutch but one has been applied on the left (like germans used to be) and the other one is right side where usually there should be a heer shield (or any other branch not the SS runic shield of course)
