Scrubbed SS Q66 M40 SD - Comments please
Quote from akriener on March 19, 2020, 2:20 amFor sale on another forum, seller acknowledges it is scrubbed. Worth going after? If so, what's reasonable? It's in Sweden and would need to come to the US.

Quote from MAP on March 19, 2020, 4:09 amAs I noted over on WRF. The seller needs to provide much better photos. And without that distracting background the distorts (for me) the helmet and the ability to analyze it.
The helmet certainly looks scrubbed with remnants of black paint.
The decal photo is really poor and taken at an angle and very low resolution. But, admitting I could be wrong, It looks closer to a Pocher decal than a Q. The left rune appears to be closer to the break where the Q is below the break.
Maybe D, Andrea, Frank have better eyes than I. I trust their analysis more than mine on SS decals.

Quote from MAP on March 19, 2020, 5:17 amPhotos are bigger on GHW. And seems to have passed muster, even with a member or two here.
Still my eyes can't make out much of the decal so would love to hear what others think given their expertise on these. Is it a Q or Pocher?

Quote from schwerpunkt73 on March 19, 2020, 8:10 amFor me scrubbed helmets are definitely a pass. They just do not have the right look anymore. It is money best spend on something else.

Quote from sysyphus on March 19, 2020, 9:06 pmI am with Frank at 100%.
what's the sense to buy an old object that doesn't look old anymore because of this "cleaning". There must be a reason as to why they decrease their value (according to the amount of damage) due to this unrespectful action

Understandable. But I am not in the business of planning to do a lot of reselling or trading. And while the community has standards as to what pieces should be like to maintain resale value, shouldn't collecting also be about what YOU personally like?

We are not talking about resale value. We deem it prudent from our experience to guide collectors to the right pieces. This is the whole intention of the German Helmet Vault. And the reason why you are seeking advice I would say. What you end up doing with it is completely up to you.
